Dr. Donald Jay Soults, 77, of Ashburn, Virginia passed away peacefully on June 7, 2017.

Don was born October 4, 1939 in Hampton, Iowa, the oldest son of Maurice and Bernice "Bunny" Soults. He grew up in Ames, Iowa and attended Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in statistics, a master's degree from Stanford University, and returned to Iowa State for his doctorate in statistics earned in 1968.

Don spent the majority of his career in the computer software industry. Upon graduation, he began working for Boeing Company in Seattle before moving to Northern Virginia in the early 1970s to work for Boeing Computer Services. In 1983, Don founded Pathfinder Systems, where his consulting work led him to create Roadshow International, Inc., an early leader in vehicle routing and scheduling technologies.

A lifelong supporter of Iowa State University, Don was elected to the ISU Foundation Board of Governors and in 2008 gave the lead gift to establish the Soults Family Visitor Center for prospective students.

Don is preceded in death by his son Devan Soults. He is survived by daughter Kira (Chris) Brunjes of Vienna, Virginia; son DJ (Katelyn) Soults of Waukee, Iowa; grandsons Justin and William Brunjes of Vienna, Virginia; sister Susan (David) Raymond of Bel Air, Maryland; brother William (Joann) Soults of Berlin, Maryland; as well as four nieces and nephews and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna, Virginia. The visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m.
