Florence Pierce Brown Snodgrass, known by friends and family as Flo, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2016. She was a long-time resident of Vienna, Virginia.
Born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1930, Flo moved to Hartford, Connecticut as a young child. She went to Keuka College in upstate New York and studied teaching. Flo spent her lifetime teaching and supporting others. She was a ballroom dance instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Centers, a frequent volunteer in the schools in Connecticut, Virginia and Washington, DC, a substitute teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools and an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. Flo taught Sunday School for over 70 years in the United Methodist Church, most recently at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna.
Flo was also active within the community. She participated in numerous community, church and genealogical organizations, and particularly enjoyed supporting the Stonewall Manor Community Association with her time and talents. She was also an avid tennis player and genealogy researcher.
Flo loved to dance, she loved to teach and she loved to help others.
She leaves behind her only child, Marjorie Snodgrass Knight (Thomas), of Great Falls, Virginia; her two beloved grandsons, Jonathan Knight of Pasadena, California and David Knight of Great Falls, Virginia; two nieces, three nephews and a great nephew. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Paul D. Snodgrass and her sister, Barbara Perry Gargiulo of Asheville, North Carolina.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna. Burial for both Flo and her husband Paul will be held following the Celebration of Life at National Memorial Cemetery in Falls Church, Virginia.
