Martha Ann Leighty (age 86)

Of Vienna, VA passed away on December 18, 2016. Beloved wife of Dr. Robert D. Leighty (deceased, 2005); devoted and loving mother of Dr. Brian D. Leighty of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Brett A. Leighty of Fairfax, VA and Dr. Robert S. Leighty of Gilbert, AZ. She cherished her grandchildren, Matthew, Erin, Amber, Catherine, Samantha, Alicia and Jake; and her daughters-in-law, Carol Leighty and Dana Leighty. She was born in Johnstown, PA in 1930 where she went to high school and was a star athlete in basketball and softball, later playing semi-professional basketball. She met her husband of 52 years there. She has lived in Mundelein, IL, Hanover, NH, and spent the last 46 years of her life in Vienna, VA.

Professionally, she put her variety of artistic talents to work in retail store decoration. She was also an artist that worked in ceramics, having her own shop where she produced numerous pieces for family, friends and retail sale. Her collections were quite popular.

She was an active volunteer with her church, Our Lady of Good Counsel, where she helped in church decoration and annual fundraising. She was also active with a widowers group, her fitness classes and the local chapter of her husband's Virginia Military Institute alumni class.

Friends may call at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Saturday, January 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church at a date to be determined, followed by interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
